Specialists in Recurrent Miscarriages and Implantation Failures

Identifying the causes of IVF failures
Situations of implantation failure or repeat miscarriage must be addressed from a holistic and specialized approach in order to increase the chances of achieving a healthy pregnancy.
At Vida Fertility, we understand the need to perform a complete study of each case and identify the possible causes behind repeated miscarriages and implantation failures.
We design solutions completely adapted to each case.
What are implantation failures?
The diagnosis of implantation failure can only occur in the case of assisted reproduction treatment by In Vitro Fertilization – IVF in Spain (either with your own eggs or donated eggs). We speak of implantation failure when after 2 or 3 good quality embryo transfers, a positive pregnancy test (beta-HCG) has not been achieved.

What are recurrent miscarriages?
We speak of recurrent miscarriages when a woman has suffered two or more gestational losses before 4 months of pregnancy. These situations can occur both in natural pregnancies and in pregnancies achieved after assisted reproduction treatment.
In both situations, it will be necessary to identify the causes before treatment is carried out.
Causes of recurrent miscarriages and implantation failures
Causes of implantation failure or repeated miscarriages may vary:
- Genetic causes: when we find an altered karyotype in the woman or man.
- Immunological causes: when the defense system of the endometrium or the woman’s body is unbalanced and does not accept the embryo.
- Endocrinological causes: when the woman’s hormonal system is dysregulated.
- Uterine pathologies: in case of alterations in the uterine cavity that may hinder implantation.
- Low oocyte or sperm quality: related to the man’s or woman’s age, or genetic alterations.
Our team of specialists will propose a comprehensive and multidisciplinary study to identify the origin of infertility in each patient.
What tests can explain recurrent miscarriages and implantation failures?
Diagnostic tests in women:
- Diagnostic hysteroscopy, EXOM hysterosonography or 3D ultrasound.
- Study of thrombophilias.
- Complete endometrial study: receptivity, microbiota and presence of infection.
- Immunological study of the woman, and immunological compatibility in the couple.
- Endometrial immunological study.
- Hormonal study.

Diagnostic tests in men
- Advanced semen analysis.
- DNA double-strand fragmentation test.
- FISH test in spermatozoa.
- Hormonal study.

PGT-A to reduce the risk of implantation failure and miscarriage
The Preimplantational Genetic Diagnosis technique (PGT-A) consists of analysing the genetic viability of the embryos obtained before their transfer to the uterus. This technique makes it possible to discard those embryos that present aneuploidies (chromosomal alterations such as trisomies or monosomies) and to keep only healthy embryos.
This PGT-A technique is recommended when there is a known genetic cause, and in the case of using a woman’s own eggs being over 39 years of age (since the decrease in ovarian quality can cause alterations in the embryos). This technique is also of interest to younger women with a history of miscarriage or implantation failure.

Where to go when there are recurrent miscarriages and implantation failures?
Recurrent miscarriages and implantation failures | Real experiences from Vida Fertility’s patients

It is incredible how, from absolute resignation, these doctors have lifted my spirits. They got me pregnant and gave me my life back. They live up to their name.

I had to find a way to become a mother if I wanted to pursue my career and not settle for just any partner. I made the right choice.

From the very first moment I felt I was being listened to, understood, and above all, I felt that my treatment was finally going in the right direction.

Hello dear Mrs Ortega,
you and the whole team of Vida fertility make us so happy. Finally a relief that we can be helped! Many thanks to you and all the others for the great care and exceptional quality work. This high quality means a lot to us. We hope that in 2024 we can take a healthy baby full of love into our arms.❤️

Thanks to Dr. Kathi’s support and by following all her advice, the best moment of the treatment came: I got pregnant.

I didn’t know if I would ever be able to get pregnant and now I’m in my 5th month of pregnancy.

It hasn’t been an easy journey. After the second attempt, I am happy to say that in two months I will be meeting my little girl.

Being able to experience this shared motherhood has been a gift for the two of us.
THANK YOU to this great team for everything!

We highly recommend Vida Fertility to anyone who has already given up hope and wants to give it one last try.

A huge thank you to the entire Vida Fertility team, especially to Sophie and Dr. Spies, who helped us achieve the wonderful project of expanding our family. We met a very competent team who perfectly guided and advised us on the medical choices to make at each stage of our journey. 🫶

I recommend Vida Fertility for their professionalism, humanism, and availability.
Our wonderful baby is the proof that the results are there!
Thank you!

Thanks to Vida fertility, we are now mums. Mums!!
It’s the greatest gift of all, we’re so happy!

The good feeling will certainly have contributed to the success of the treatment.
When we first contacted the clinic, I didn’t expect to become a mum so quickly, and now I even have hope that we might be able to create a sibling for our son with the remaining blastocysts.
Thank you!

I chose Vida Fertility because it’s a clinic that offers human support from the very beginning. I’m convinced that my state of mind, so influenced by the unconditional support they gave me, was key to the success of my treatment.

At the first consultation, I felt heard, understood, and full of hope again. The final transfer, our last chance, took place in February 2024… and it worked. Our little girl has brought immense joy to our whole family.

Being a single parent brings challenges, but I’d recommend anyone thinking about it to go for it. Vida Fertility made my dream come true with my first IVF.
FAQs about recurrent miscarriages and implantation failures
When can I resume assisted reproductive treatment after a miscarriage?
The recommended time to resume assisted reproductive treatment after a miscarriage depends on both the physical and emotional state of the patient.
Medically, we usually advise waiting between one and three menstrual cycles to ensure that the body has recovered and the endometrium is in optimal condition. However, it is also crucial to ensure that the patient is emotionally prepared before restarting the process.
At Vida Fertility, we adapt the timing according to the individual needs of each patient.
How to avoid recurrent miscarriages?
Avoiding repeat miscarriages requires a personalised approach, as it is essential to identify and treat the underlying cause. This may involve genetic testing, immunological studies, evaluation of embryo quality and analysis of the uterine environment.
At Vida Fertility, we use advanced technology and a multidisciplinary team to address this problem in a comprehensive manner, optimising the chances of success in future attempts.
What tests should be done after two implantation failures?
After two implantation failures, we recommend an exhaustive study that includes:
- Genetic testing: such as karyotyping in both partners and PGT-A in the embryos.
- Uterine studies: hysteroscopy or 3D ultrasound to rule out abnormalities in the uterus.
- Immunological evaluation: analysis of factors such as KIR-HLA-C or the presence of thrombophilias.
- Endometrial studies: tests such as ERA to evaluate endometrial receptivity and the uterine microbiome.
At Vida Fertility, we adjust the tests according to each patient’s medical history to ensure an accurate diagnosis and personalised treatments.
