Ovarian rejuvenation: technique, age limit and procedure

dual stim

Lifestyle and the search for stability before having the first child are associated with the delay of motherhood. And with it, it is becoming more and more common for couples or women who decide to become single mothers to visit fertility clinics such as Vida Fertility.

The problem occurs when these patients have a low ovarian reserve, since the quality and quantity of their oocytes has been decreasing with age. And, therefore, when starting a hormonal stimulation cycle for an in vitro fertilization treatment with the patient’s eggs, the result will be: few eggs of low quality with difficulty in reaching the blastocyst stage (day 5 of development).

At this point one of the solutions we give to our patients is to initiate an ovarian rejuvenation process to improve their chances of achieving pregnancy with their own eggs.

What does Ovarian Rejuvenation and Endometrial Rejuvenation consist of?

The use of Regenerative Medicine has gone from being an experimental treatment to one of the pioneering treatments to improve clinical results in common treatments.

Thanks to its versatility, this technology makes it possible to obtain different formulations of plasma rich in growth factors that can be adapted to different clinical uses, such as traumatology, aesthetic medicine, ophthalmology, dentistry and reproductive medicine.

Because of this, at Vida Fertility we are committed to offer the best service to our patients and we use a regenerative medicine technique based on growth factors (PRGF) through a closed system with CE marking that allows us to quickly prepare the blood plasma under sterile conditions and immediate application.

Regenerative medicine for the endometrium

A new strategy has recently emerged that consists of intrauterine administration with platelet-rich plasma and plasma rich in growth factors (PRGF) that will help us improve endometrial conditions to achieve better success rates after embryo transfer.

What is PRGF?

It is a portion of the patient’s plasma with a high concentration of platelets. It is obtained after separation of the components of a blood sample, in a process known as centrifugation.

Platelets release a large amount of growth factors that promote the repair and regeneration of different tissues.

Ovarian Rejuvenation: Who is Regenerative Medicine indicated for?

  • Patients with low ovarian reserve.
  • With endometrial atrophy.
  • With refractory endometrium, that an endometrium that does not reach the expected girth to ensure the success of the transfer.
  • Or patients with recurrent implantation failure.

What is the ovarian rejuvenation process like?

The development of follicles in very early stages depends on several growth factors, thus the administration of PRGF directly into the ovary would increase the concentration of these factors and favor the activation of “dormant follicles”.

After obtaining a blood sample from the patient as if it were a blood test, the PRGF® obtained is inserted into both ovaries through transvaginal ovarian puncture under sedation, with no need for hospitalization.

Ovarian Rejuvenation steps:

  1. Blood extraction.
  2. Plasma preparation.
  3. Intraovarian administration.
  4. IVF cycle.
