What is IUI with a donor sperm?
Artificial insemination by donor is an Assisted Reproduction technique that consists of introducing sperm directly into the woman’s uterus during the ovulatory period, thus increasing the chances of conception.
The sperm is donated by an anonymous donor through a sperm bank.
In many European countries, such as Spain, Denmark and Switzerland, this procedure is allowed for single women, while in Italy the legislation is more restrictive. However, more and more women decide to travel abroad to have access to this opportunity.

One of the most important aspects to consider is the cost of the treatment. The cost of donor artificial insemination can vary significantly depending on the centre chosen.
In Spain, the average price of an artificial insemination starts at around 1,000 euros and can increase depending on additional services, such as female fertility tests and specialised counselling.
At Vida Fertility we can help you find out what you really need for your treatment to be successful. Ask us about your case.
Who is donor insemination indicated for?
Artificial insemination with donor is indicated for healthy women who wish to become pregnant.
- Women under 40 years of age with a good ovarian reserve and no particular fertility problems.
- Women with good reproductive health who wish to become single mothers. The best clinic for single mothers by choice is Vida Fertility
- Couples of women who do not want to use the ROPA method.
However, each case is unique. Before starting, diagnostic tests should be carried out, such as:
- Blood tests to assess hormones and fertility: levels of AMH, FSH, LH, oestradiol, etc.
- Transvaginal ultrasound scans
- Analysis of ovarian reserve
- Genetic compatibility test and karyotype test to evaluate possible risks of transmission of hereditary diseases.

Steps of IUI with a donor sperm for singles
The artificial insemination process follows a series of steps:
- First diagnostic visit: We carry out a first visit, online or in person, to evaluate your case and design the best therapeutic plan.
- Natural or stimulated cycle: Artificial insemination is performed following your natural cycle or by means of a small hormonal stimulation to help follicular development.
- Ovulation induction: When the dominant follicle has reached an adequate size, we provoke ovulation by means of a final injection of the hCG hormone.
- Insemination: On this day, which coincides with the woman’s ovulation day, we prepare the donor’s semen sample and introduce it into the uterus through the vagina using a cannula containing the sample.
- Beta-waiting: You will know the result of the treatment after about two weeks of waiting (beta-waiting). At this point, you can take a pregnancy test.
- Follow-up: Verification of the success of the treatment by means of blood tests and pregnancy tests.
